Lohr am Main, Germany — The SORG Group has reached a key milestone with the successful completion of one year of operation of its CLEAN Melter® at CRISAL, the renowned Portuguese glassware manufacturer based in Marinha Grande. The installation replaced CRISAL’s former regenerative F1 Endport furnace and was supported by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) through the ECP Agenda – Ecocerâmica e Cristalaria de Portugal.

CRISAL, part of the international Leerdam Crisal Group (LCGlass), is Portugal’s one-of-a-kind producer of high-quality glassware. The region’s deep roots in glassmaking made it an ideal location for the adoption of SORG’s advanced, low-emission melting technology.

The CLEAN Melter® is an oxy-hybrid furnace designed to operate with up to 80% electricity, complemented by gas for the remaining energy share. It is also engineered to integrate hydrogen heating in the future, positioning CRISAL for long-term carbon-reduction goals. With a melting surface of roughly 55 m², the furnace is playing a major role in cutting CO₂ emissions as part of the company’s sustainability roadmap.

SORG supplied the complete engineering and equipment scope, including electrical and fossil heating components and the SCADA-based furnace control system. The conditioning equipment an STW® distribution channel and five STF® forehearths — was also delivered by SORG.

SKS, a subsidiary of the SORG Group, handled all on-site work, from dismantling the old furnace to constructing, heating up, and filling the new CLEAN Melter®.

SORG expressed its appreciation to CRISAL and LCGlass for the strong partnership that contributed to the project’s success.
